These mountains have stories to tell if you're willing to listen. This is a hike of lore and exploration into West Virginias historical past. Once home to the largest and oldest Red Spruce population in North America, Cheat Ridge runs fifty miles long and begins right in Snowshoe's backyard. This hike is and out and back meandering along the starting tributary of the Shavers Fork Headwaters, and for 1.5 mi gently ascends old railroad grade to the summit of Cheat
Ridge.
